Iraqi Parliament Pretends to Condemn U.N. Plan

The Iraqi Parliament on Monday decried the U.N. resolution on weapons inspections as ill-intended, dishonest and worthy of rejection. The members of the Parliament seemed thrilled, however, that they had the opportunity to pretend that what they decide matters.

Parliament Speaker Saadoun Hamadi said the resolution was
"Okay, Okay, You can't all be Senator number 2. I know that part has the best lines but we only get one shot at this people!"
filled with "ill intentions," "falsehood," "lies," and "dishonesty." He also said, "You people are actually writing this down? Oh, this is fun."

The head of the parliament's foreign relation committee, Salim al-Koubaisi has recommended the rejection of the resolution. When asked if he had any personal comments to add, he laughed and then asked, "Are you serious?"

An unnamed member of the parliament was quoted as saying, "I'm just excited to have something to do. I haven't really worked for years."

Iraq has until Friday to officially adopt or reject the resolution before the U.N. takes action. Until then, though, members of the Parliament are apparently all joining together at Hamadi's house for a "cast" party to celebrate the success of their meetings. "All in all it was a good show. A few kinks need to be worked out, some cues missed, things like that, but for a dress rehearsal it was fantastic."
