September 2001: Hope and Tragedy Remembered By Few
Looking back at a different world

Americans everywhere are reflecting today on the events of almost two years ago.

"September 26th? Gee, I dunno, I guess I was in work or something," said one confused citizen.

Such sentiments are common near this momentous anniversary. "What, was that the day we bombed Afghanistan or something?" asked a visibly moved teenage boy.

Mosques, synagogues and churches overflowed as bereaved offered prayers to the departed.

"It’s not fair, they never had a chance," said Matthew Demoys, a loved one. "Even the annoying blonde guy with the fake British accent deserved better."

Priests, as well as religious figures who can keep their hands off children, could only offer condolences. "We try to tell people that while some must go, others are born in their place – you know, that whole Simba, Lion King, circle of life crap," a priest of the Church of Masturbatory Sin said.

Mostly, Americans try to gain inspiration from what happened on September 26th. "Um, I think you have the wrong date," offered a University of Pittsburgh history professor.

Others rationalize the loss. "The show was consistently hitting below ratings," said Ray Grulieow of Fox Broadcasting. "Besides, there’s always the chance it’ll return after retooling."

These six remember what happened, they were there.
Such rationalizations are of little comfort to the literally dozens of fans of Fox’s now defunct sitcom Undeclared. Debuting two years ago this month, it was pulled in March 2002 without its season finale ever being aired.

Demoys summarized the feelings of most Americans. "I know it’s been said a many times before, but I really don’t think the world will ever be the same."

While FOX has filled the show’s former time slot many times over with such fascinating offerings as Man vs. Beast and "Celebrity" Boxing, a memorial is in the works for the six actors who lost their jobs after the cancellation.
